Yearline · Daily #11

7 moments from history. Drag to the year you think it happened — dead on is a diamond.

In short: to date an Eraly moment, first fix the era from the technology and names in it, then anchor to an event you know for sure and count from there, and in the last two centuries narrow to the decade before committing to a year. Below are tiered hints for today's Yearline (October 26, 2026), hidden until you tap, plus unlimited practice above.

How to date any historical moment

  1. Read the clues for era. Steam, telegraph, radio, jet, internet: each technology fences off a century or less. Titles like “emperor”, “shogun” or “Soviet” do the same.
  2. Find your anchor. Pick a date you are certain of — 1492, 1789, 1914, 1969 — and ask whether the moment came before or after, and by how much.
  3. Use lifetimes. If you know who was involved, their lifetime brackets the year. Shakespeare (1564–1616) and Napoleon (1769–1821) cover a lot of ground.
  4. Go decade first. After 1800 a decade off costs real points. Settle on the decade, then the year inside it.
  5. Don't overthink antiquity. Before 1000 the scoring is forgiving; land in the right century and you keep most of the points.

Questions people ask

Are these the answers to today's official Eraly?

No. Rarest Answer is not affiliated with Eraly and does not copy its moments or answers. The dating method works on any Eraly-style moment; the hints below are for today's Yearline, our own free daily with a separate event bank.

What is Eraly?

Eraly (eraly.io) is a daily history game: you see a moment from the past and guess the year it happened. The closer your guess, the more points you score.

Is there an Eraly unlimited mode?

Eraly has its own infinite mode on eraly.io. Yearline here adds another: Unlimited deals endless 7-moment rounds from a bank of 129 events.

How does Yearline score a guess?

The exact year scores 100 (a Diamond). Points fall away smoothly with distance, scaled to the era: being 10 years off matters a lot for 1969 but little for AD 400. Before 1000 the scale is a century, 1000–1799 a generation (30 years), and after 1800 a decade.

When does the daily change?

Every day at 00:00 UTC. Today's Yearline is #11. Your streak counts consecutive days you finish the daily, saved in this browser.

What years can events come from?

AD 1 to today. Every event uses its commonly cited year, so you can check any of them in an encyclopedia after you play.
